David Powlen Joins Western Reserve Partners as Managing Director August 3, 2006 Investment banking firm Western Reserve Partners LLC announced that David M. Powlen has joined it as a managing director and been admitted to the partnership. In addition to assisting with traditional merger and acquisition projects, Powlen will lead the firm’s work on restructurings, Chapter 11 cases and other special situations for a variety of clients, including companies undertaking turnarounds, recapitalizations and sale transactions, and lenders, creditors’ committees, prospective investors or purchasers and other parties that become involved in such situations. Powlen has more than 25 years of combined experience as an investment banker, financial advisor and attorney. He has been involved in numerous transactions for both publicly and privately held businesses, including mergers and acquisitions, financing, and reorganizations in industries such as automotive, construction, energy, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, metals, retail and wholesale sales, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. Previously, Powlen worked as a senior financial advisor in a nationally prominent consulting firm and as leader of the restructuring group within the investment banking division of one of the country’s largest diversified financial institutions. In both positions he focused primarily on the financial and strategic issues associated with under-performing or troubled enterprises and advised companies, creditors’ committees, secured creditors and other parties in bankruptcy cases and out-of-court restructuring situations. Powlen also practiced law with a top-100 business law firm, chairing its creditors’ rights department and appearing in Chapter 11 cases throughout the United States. “David is a tremendous addition to our firm,” said Managing Director Mark Filippell. “Our clients will certainly benefit from his expertise in restructurings and bankruptcy cases as well as his extensive experience in M&A and financing transactions.
